I teach at a public school in rural Alabama. I teach in the same school building I attended as a child, 32 years ago. We are a Title I school with the majority of students receiving free or reduced lunches. State funding for classroom materials has been cut due to the economy. It has made it difficult to provide the hands-on materials needed to meet the challenges faced by my students. The majority of my students did not attend preschool. I have high expectations for all of my students regardless of their past experiences.
