Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” As an educator, I believe this! With a plan of action, my mentor will guide me with hands on lessons with Windows 8 and project based learning. "Yes, involve me as a student and I will learn!"
My library is without a doubt, the center of the school.
I see all students no less that once a week. Some grades levels come more often. I am fortunate to work at a dedicated and committed elementary feeder school with 544 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. We are definitely a community that is centered on education and our children. I have taught several grade levels and feel I have finally found a true home as a librarian and book lover. I see all 500+ students weekly & love it. Our school is blessed with wonderful students who love to read and teachers who are in the teaching profession for all of the right reasons. Plan of action: I know this laptop would benefit my library in many ways. I would need to learn more about the system. I've been given a professional development reading list by my tech leader. With the use of the requested Windows 8 laptop, my mentor will guide me. Plans are @ http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/dozier/eye/profdevsessions/ProfDevelopmentW8.pdf .
My Project
As a "born again student", this laptop would serve me on many educational levels. Without a doubt, the mobility of this device, would assist me not only with the professional development sessions I attend, but it would help later in my library, as well. I recently spoke with our technology leader at school.
Together we'll embark on a learning journey where I am the student. Later I would like to do project based learning lessons with my students. The lesson plan for my personal learning journey includes meeting for 3 sessions for me to understand Windows 8 first. Then I will learn more about project based lessons to use in my library. In speaking with my tech leader, she recommended professional development articles & tutorials that would guide me. Step 1 of my professional development path would be to learn more about this Windows 8 machine. After learning the physical aspects of its uses, the 2nd goal at hand, would be to learn to use it as a resource with all of my students.
Together, you and I have a rare opportunity that would enable me as the librarian to learn more about the use of windows 8 computers.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” To become a better educator, I need to step back and become involved as a student again. With the help of my mentor guiding me and your funding, my motto is, "Yes, involve me as a student and I will learn!" Will you consider helping me on this unique journey?
