Have you ever been in a room where it was too noisy to think, much less eat? The noise level in our cafeteria is currently extremely high, and many students will often plug their ears to block out the noise. The acoustics in our old gymnasium/cafeteria are very poor.
The children at the elementary school, where I teach, range in age from 4K-5th grade.
Our school is considered a high poverty school, yet we receive very little in federal and state funds. The money we do receive is used to buy curriculum materials, and there is really nothing left for added materials that enhance the child's school experience. Sad, but true!
My Project
The Yacker Tracker will be help the children to be more aware of their voice volume, during breakfast and lunch. The Yacker Tracker looks like a stoplight. The desired volume level is green, yellow means they are getting a bit too noisy, and red means "yikes". The device can be adjusted to reflect the appropriate volume. In addition, the remote control can allow an adult in the cafeteria to change the colors, on demand.
This project will allow students a more enjoyable dining experience, while at school.
Do you remember your elementary lunchroom? I'm sure you do. With a generous donation you can help 350 children on a daily basis. That's what I call making a difference!
