My Students

Breaking down cultural barriers is difficult without being able to meet and get to know people from distant places. Most of the students at my school will never travel farther than 100 miles from home. Hard to get to understand the world in these circumstances.

My reservation raised students have incredible experiences they would love to share with their peers in different parts of the world.

Many of them live in homes with no running water and some without electricity here in the Southwest. Most of my students have limited access at home to computers and the Internet. Their time spent at school is the best time for them to connect with the rest of the world.

My Project

In order to facilitate this connection to the outside world, I would love my students to have the opportunity to share their experiences with their peers in other parts of the world and to learn about the experiences of students who live thousands of miles away. Using a mobile device that can access Skype can make this possible. As their teacher I will establish connections with other middle school teachers who would also like to have the opportunity for their students to learn what life is like for Native Americans in rural America. We will share each others local history, stories and current events. We will collaborate on writing projects with the ultimate goal of publishing the collection of stories that the students produce that are inspired by the long distance collaborations.

Your support will truly make a difference in bring the real world to my students.

While many of us have the ability to travel to far away places to experience the wonderful diversity that is out there, this will be the only opportunity that many of my student will get in their life time. For the cost of less than one round trip ticket to a foreign land, you can send more than 100 young people on a trip they will never forget. Thank you.
