Working Smart and Offering Support with Technology

My students need an iPad and protective case to offer support and practice skills in both math and reading independently, where they find fun, success, and knowledge.

My Students

Do you remember when you became really good at reading? Or do you remember memorizing all your addition and subtraction facts? My 2nd graders are currently on that adventure! However some more than others are struggling.

I have the pleasure of working with an energetic, creative, talkative, very kind hearted group of 18 second graders.

We are a very young and diverse group with very different and special needs. We are a diverse school with groups ranging from low socioeconomic to middle class. With that I have student's who are needing extra support in both reading and math. My kids love to laugh, listen to music, they love the song and dance "Tooty Ta" and have a passion for offering support to others.

My Project

My second graders love learning! Second grade is such an exciting year, remembering things from first grade and applying the new information. Because they love to learn and get so caught up sometimes when they don't understand or struggle they feel defeated. With an iPad in our classroom, students will be able to independently work on a particular skill that might be causing their frustration, whether it is word fluency, rhyming words or reading aloud. The possibilities are endless. I would love to be able to send a student to our center pod to record themselves reading a story, and then play it back to themselves. It would be so beneficial for those students receiving interventions in both math or reading to sit one on one with the Ipad and use the many apps or web-based resources to practice fact fluency or a literacy skill. All while maintaining independence and having fun.

If I could I would supply my class with everything they wanted or needed.

But as we talk about in our class, sometimes we need help from others, and sometimes we need to be that help. They work smart, offer support, respect self and others, lead by example, and certainly demonstrate creativity. I want to give them one more opportunity to feel important, to feel accomplished and to remember that learning is always fun!
