My literacy based classroom is designed to enrich curriculum for higher level learners and provide intervention for struggling readers. My students are often fidgety and need an outlet for their pent up energy that will allow them to focus on discovering the joy of reading.
Our school is a Title 1 school with students at a variety of levels and backgrounds.
Most of the students that come into my room are faced with reading difficulties. These students often have trouble focusing and staying on task. School is often filled with extreme challenges and intervention is a necessity. My classroom needs to be a place where they can feel safe to get out their energy and focus on the learning needed to advance them in their education. This classroom is also home to a book club of advanced readers that need enrichment in literacy instruction. They meet 3 times a week to take part in book club, author studies, and extension projects. They often find themselves so excited they cannot remain in their chair.
My Project
When your backside falls asleep, your brain falls asleep. My students need an outlet for their energy that will allow them to focus on learning. Wobble chairs will allow the students to get their wiggles out. I encourage them to rock, move, and get comfortable. Keeping their body awake and moving helps to keep their brain awake and focused. Students love the novelty of sitting in a nontraditional chair. Teachers love seeing children fully engaged in learning. This wobble chair will be FUN for students and enhance the environment of our reading room.
My students often can not afford the newest and coolest devices.
Providing wobble chairs will be exciting for them and allow their brains to focus on learning. When school is fun, students are more apt to take educational risks. Wobble chairs are a fun way to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment.
