Wobble Chairs to Keep Students Engaged While Seated

My students need 25 wobble chairs to help them sit through 7 hours of classes. These chairs will help to build core strength and get wiggles out so they can focus on the lesson.

My Students

I am floored by my 6th grade students every day! These kids are going to be the ones going to Mars, curing cancer, and changing our world in ways I can't even begin to imagine. Every day we unlock students' natural curiosities and passion and link it to different STEM careers.

I have the pleasure of teaching kids aged 11 and 12 in rural Tennessee.

So many kids come to my class hating math or thinking they just don't 'get it.' I spend the whole year showing my kids they understand more than they ever imagined and might even LOVE math! Once the students start enjoying math we then talk about all the cool STEM careers they can pursue with an interest or degree in math. It's amazing to see a student find an interest in computer programming and engineering at such a young age and imagine the direction their life will take because of it!

My Project

Imagine your first day of 6th grade. What a big transition! Not least of all, you were expected to sit in a desk for up to 8 hours with no recess break! For many students that is just physically impossible; they cannot sit still that long! As often happens with students with ADHD, I have seen with all of my students that if you force them to sit still their minds wander. If we as educators give students the ability to get their 'wiggles' out by moving around or fidgeting with their hands and feet, their brain can be still and focused. My students need 25 wobble chairs to help them sit through 7 hours of classes. These chairs will help to build core strength and get wiggles out so they can focus on the lesson. I have seen the difference these amazing wobble chairs make in the classroom-allowing students to move around a bit while improving their focus on the lesson. Additionally while moving around on the curved stool, they will be burning calories and building core strength. A stool that helps them physically and cognitively would help every student lucky enough to get one!

Many students who are unable to focus in class face a mountain of issues.

They may turn to distracting peers, be fussed at constantly by teachers, begin to fall behind in their coursework, and worst of all feel they are unable to learn and give up on their education. However, our bodies and brains aren't meant to sit perfectly still for 8 hours a day in a desk! These wobble chairs can help improve each student's ability to focus, their academic performance, as well as their physical health.
