White Boards Help Kids Take Risks and Make Learning Fun!

My students need white boards to help them take risks with new concepts in a safe & fun way. I can check student understanding during class and provide better instruction.

My Students

My students have a variety of learning differences whether they are gifted and talented, English language learners, dyslexic, or other special needs.

My school is a Title 1 school (>40% free or reduced lunch) and my district is also in a budget crunch which translates to limited resources for the classroom.

My Project

I have found that one of the greatest tools for all students is the use of white boards. It helps the students to show what they know is a low-risk environment. They can easily correct their work and the practice allowed on a white board builds student confidence. As a teacher, I can check student understanding during the lesson and modify my instruction immediately instead of waiting for a test or quiz to tell me that students are struggling with a concept. Difficult 8th grade science concepts like balancing chemical equations and calculating force become easier with personal white boards for the students. The impact of white boards in my classroom is almost magical! White Boards have the added benefit of reducing the use of paper in class which helps the environment and our budget. In addition to not having enough white boards to accommodate my increasing class sizes, the ones I have are close to 15 years old and are showing their age.

When students have confidence in their learning ability, they get excited to come to class and learn. While I want the kids to do well on their state test and succeed in high school and beyond, my ultimate goal is to create life long learners. That all starts with students' recognizing their own intelligence and ability!
