My classroom is an interactive ELA (Reading) Classroom. My goal is to have students create interactive notebooks to have them take ownership and interact with their learning.
My students are a group of kids who take pride in their learning in Reading Class, but we lack the supplies to make this happen.
These students are excited about learning and love the idea of interactive notebooks.
Our school is a great place for our children to learn and does everything possible to make sure each and every child succeeds. Unfortunately, it is also low income district with many of the kids receiving free and reduced lunch. Finding a classroom full of students who all have a pencil and a notebook at the beginning of the year is hard to come across. Year after year, I do my best to ensure that all students have all of the necessary materials to help them succeed and take pride in their education.
My Project
Interactive notebooks are a beneficial tool for students, teachers, and parents. These notebooks are used to teach kids to organize their thoughts, differentiate instruction each and every day, help strengthen parent communication and help students take ownership of their learning.
The notebook will be used each and every day by each student. These notebooks are put together by each student requiring gluing, cutting, coloring and many other tasks. These notebooks are not simply writing notes, they are taking pride and ownership in the notes you take. Over 2 years, I have found that students do not lose these notebooks because they are a great resource for them to have and to continue to use well beyond my classroom walls.
In addition to the everyday ELA skills I teach, the students will learn how to take pride in their work and for once, not lose their notebook after a week or two of class. I have found this is a great tool and I am so excited to use them again this year.
This project will improve my classroom in so many ways.
First, it will remove the stress of kids not being able to afford pencils, glue, crayons, etc. Each and every kid will come into my room on the first day knowing that their home life doesn't matter - I will have the supplies to make the worries disappear from day 1. Once this is established, the students can focus solely on the reading curriculum and the great things I will teach them, using their interactive notebooks of course!
