My students need Osmo Gaming Systems to use iPads where they can still have tactile experiences, and get instant feedback on their progress with a skill, while working independently.
Our Kindergarten class provides lots of opportunities for students to practice their literacy and math skills through small group and independent practice throughout the day. We love giving opportunities to use engaging materials that help build a love of learning.
We have a wonderful small community school situated in a larger city.
We have students from all backgrounds who join us. My Kinders are full of energy and excitement for learning, and each year we get to explore the world around us, learning to read, write, and investigate math concepts.
My Project
With the Osmo Gaming Systems, my Kinders will be able to utilize technology we already have, iPads, in a tactile way that also allows instant feedback. We use iPads throughout the day, and have found many fun apps that allow students to create content, record their thinking, and to offer independent practice with skills. However, during center times, while there are apps that allow students to "manipulate" letters and numbers, many students don't seem to connect the swipe of a finger to the screen with the letter names or sounds. This set will allow students to work independently at a center, and still get the opportunity to use their hands to manipulate physical pieces while receiving instant feedback through the iPad. We will also be able to use the set within math, as students learn to explore special-relations, creating tangram puzzles. In this way, even when students are not working in a small group with a teacher, they will be able to stay focused, and self-monitor more effectively.
My students will have more opportunities to work in fun and engaging independent work, while still getting valuable learning opportunities.
They will benefit from working on letter sounds, letter names, and building their understanding of spacial-relations. It will allow them to use our iPads in even more meaningful ways.
