We the Students...Need to Learn About the Constitution!

My students need books about the Constitution, U.S. Government, and national symbols, as well as a Chromebook for collaborating on research and writing projects.

My Students

To live under the American Constitution is the greatest political privilege that was ever accorded to the human race - by Calvin Coolidge. My students need to understand more about the Constitution and how it's important in their lives.

My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving students the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.

My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income Title 1 public school, located in Wyoming. Each of the 20 students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner. They look for opportunities to gain new knowledge where they can. Some of the students in my class speak another language other than English at home. This can make learning more difficult at times, but this does not stop my students from learning.

My Project

I am requesting books and a Chromebook to engage my students in collaboration and inquiry on projects about the U.S. Constitution, citizenship, and the government. The True Books series, in particular, is a popular one among my students. The text is accessible for all readers and the photographs and other text features present the content in a clear, kid-friendly way. The other books will give students a deeper understanding of documents such as the Bill of Rights. It is important that children--and adults--understand the meaning of these important words, and how they impact us as U.S. citizens. My students will use all of these books and the Chromebook to collaborate on research and writing projects that will deepen their understanding of U.S. citizenship and the Constitution.

These books and the chromebook will be used to deepen student understanding through learning more about the Constitution.

They will not only gain deeper understanding, but they will also become more informed members of our society which will them in their future lives.
