We Need The Write Stuff

My students need writing materials, like a complete set of Language Teaching Centers for Common Core Standards, a Ready to Write Prompt Box, Writing Activity Pockets, and a Flip to Learn Revising and Editing Guide.

My Students

On a typical day in my classroom my students are often asked to read and then write a response or information report. Many of my students love to write no matter what. Others, though, need things to be a little more exciting or broken down into very small pieces to be enjoyable or interesting.

Our Title 1 school is located in a suburb near a large metropolitan city.

Over half of our student population is low-income. The students in my 4th grade class are creative and fun-loving children. A large number of my students enjoy reading and writing. Many of them write extra stories and texts on their own and bring it in to share with the class.

My Project

The materials requested in this project are aligned to my districts standards and will allow my students more opportunities to interact with various writing skills and the writing process. From writing opinions, to short narratives or stories, to full-fledged research projects, my students will have the guidance and assistance they need even when I can't be right there with them. Many of the products that I am requesting can be used for whole group instruction, in small group activities, and by individual students/partners at stations. The Common Core Language Arts Learning Center activities will allow my students to practice many language arts and writing skills on their own. The Ready to Write Prompt Box includes ideas and activities to aid students in pre-writing, organizing, and writing their thoughts on paper. The Traits of Writing Flip Chart will provide writing tips, model essays, and student-friendly scoring rubrics for the students to use.

I want to encourage a life-long love of writing.

My hope is that by receiving the materials requested in this project, I can increase the number of students that enjoy writing in my classroom. Also, by using these hands-on interactive writing activities my students will become more engaged in the writing process.
