My students need a rug, a comfortable, colorful, stay-in-place, all-their-own spot to sit while we learn the kindergarten essential skills for lifelong success.

My Students
My job is to teach. My passion is to love. A favorite quote that inspires me is from Christopher Robin..."Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, & loved more than you will ever know." I pray my students leave feeling loved so they can learn.
We live in a small town where everyone knows each other.
Often, I will see students on my many trips to Wal Mart since this is our main store for one-stop shopping. It makes me chuckle at their reactions when they see me outside of school because, you know, teachers live at school (ha ha). Our school feels like Mayberry. It is warm and inviting, positive and inspiring. I knew immediately that this was the school I wanted to be a part of the moment I walked in.
My Project
This rug will allow us to have a comfortable, safe/no movement place to sit. We can graph, measure, and sort using the squares. We can play a "which picture begins with the letter __?" or "which picture ends with the letter __?" We can play a musical picture type of game using the pictures around the edge of the rug. I can place letter, number, or sight word cards inside the squares and use bean bags to play a learning toss game. Not only will they be learning necessary skills, but they will be building relationships with each other as some games would require team work.
This rug would make our classroom safer since our current hodge podge of 3 rugs slide and bunch up causing stumbles and falls.
The rug is beautiful and a learning tool which will benefit the students who are visually and kinesthetically motivated.
