We Need A Cozy Reading Area Rug--Tile's Not Cozy...

My students need a comfortable rug to sit or lie upon while reading during center time.

My Students

I am all about cozy! I am a strong believer that as a teacher it is my job to make the classroom as cozy, safe, and home-like as possible so that students feel comfortable to learn in grow in the classroom.

I am moving to a bigger classroom, and there is a large tile area that all of the other teachers use as their classroom library area since the rest of the carpet space in the room is devoted to student desks and small-group tables.

I haven't met my 2014-2015 kindergarteners yet, but I know they will be a very diverse group of kiddos, and I LOVE diversity, so I can't wait to meet them and learn more about them. I teach in a low income area where parents often do not have enough extra money to donate to classroom items that we could greatly use. I am thankful to have a resource like DonorsChoose so that I can get things funded for my classroom that my students will use everyday and greatly appreciate. You wouldn't believe how excited they get when our projects get funded and they show up at school. The looks on their faces are priceless.

My Project

My students will use this rug every day during small group time and math centers. I plan on having bookshelves set up around the rug so that students can also go there to read when they are finished with their language arts work. During math time, students can go to this area of the classroom to work on their math centers when they are finished with their assignments for the day. I truly believe that this rug will add the finishing touches on bringing our classroom together.

This classroom rug for the reading area will give the students a comfortable and cozy place to read when they are finished with their work.

Right now the area is just hard tile--which isn't comfortable or cozy at all. I am confident that having this warm place to sit and read a book will help build positive memories around reading and learning at school.
