"Nothing is hopeless; we must hope for everything." It's easy to get discouraged in a small charter school without resources, but the incredible mission of DonorsChoose gives me hope. Be a part of helping my 6th grade students have a book to explore together.
My 6th grade English/Language Arts students live in the Pacific Northwest.
Our charter school is small, new, and full of energy. We strive to be life-long learners and be active, positive roles in our community. The lack of resources limits our initial attempts, but our passionate teachers are willing to put in the extra time and energy to make our school better and give our students the best chance of success.
My Project
A full class set of A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle will allow my students to begin the process of shared inquiry and literary analysis. Students deserve modeling and collaborative experiences to help them understand the intricacies of literary exploration. A book for every student will give us the opportunity to explore themes, motifs, characterization, and other literary elements together and learn from each other as we explore the world of reading.
At our small charter, we have a lot of passion, but we greatly lack the resources and supplies of many schools around us.
We do not have text books, or curriculum, which gives us freedom to meet students needs with creative, interdisciplinary, hands on units, but requires the help of the surrounding community to gather supplies, donations, and create engaging lessons. Thank you, in advance, for any help you can provide for our project and the other projects here on DonorsChoose!
