We Love Wii-U Math!

My students are amazing learners who LOVE technology!

We are overhauling our library/media-center and transforming it into a Learning Commons, complete with a MakerSpace where kids can build, create, and grow! Our school is a STEM school - we integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math into our core subjects every day. Our media center is behind and desperately needs updating to be a space where 21st century learners can thrive!

My Project

Today's students are gamers at heart - they LOVE video games, especially ones that challenge their critical thinking. "Gamification" of curriculum has been at the forefront of many teaching and technology blogs, professional development workshops, conferences, and more for the past several years. It's time to harness the kids' love of games and turn it into a real-world learning experience! Our new Wii-U, Mario Kart 8 game, and protective case will be cataloged in our library for the math department to check out. It will be available to all of our students in our school to learn probability, statistics, and more. Students will be able to play the games and use the data they create (e.g. 3 time trial races) to process statistics in math class - and they'll have fun doing it, too! Additionally the Wii U will be available to after school clubs and for lunchtime rewards to students who earn it through positive behavior.

Playing a Wii-U in math class will engage even the most reluctant of learners - who doesn't love video games?

I can't wait to get a Wii-U into the hands of our fabulous learners to see all that they can do with this new learning tool!
