My students need equipment, DVD, and CDs to move and learn. Skills mats and equipment can be used to help build fine and gross motor skills while we learn basic skills.
We are a sensory bunch! We need a chance to move our bodies to not only build gross motor skills, but a way to learn to cope with the world around us. Our class needs a lot of vestibular and proprioceptive activity to engage in learning.
Our class is diverse!
We have some students who come in and out throughout the day for small group instruction or sensory diet breaks--and we have some that spend a lot of time in our room. Living in a rural Wyoming area with a very high poverty rate, we work hard to provide opportunities for every student to learn and grow, in their own unique ways. Our classroom includes many different students with different disabilities from Autism, emotional disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and multiple disabilities. Our goal is to grow every day and we celebrate our daily successes!
My Project
We have included yoga and other physically based activity DVDs and CDs to get us moving. The items we have selected provide options and flexibility in order to maximize their use in our program setting. We are "out of the box" thinkers, and these items, like the activity mats, will be used in many different ways--from transition times, to use in the sensory diet routines, to academic learning tasks and individualized centers.
These students deserve every opportunity to learn and grow with their peer group.
By providing flexible ways to incorporate sensory activities, learn self control strategies, and increase their gross motor skills, you are helping them work towards their unique dreams and ambitions.
