Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning my students are learning about topics from Beethoven to The Underground Railroad and everything in between. I use my single laptop to project online video clips and my eager students watch, take notes and write about their learning on dry erase boards or in their notebooks.

I teach a group of 3rd grade Gifted Students in an inner-city school in a large metropolitan city.

A large percentage of students at my school come from low-income households and thus all students have access to the free lunch program. Many students do not have access to technology that will help them succeed in today's world. My students are enthusiastic learners with a great deal of potential. My job is to expose them to as much real world learning as possible. I want to provide my students with the tools they need to be successful participants in our society. I want them to have access to the world beyond our classroom walls and show them that there are limitless possibilities.

My Project

The 10 chromebooks that this project will fund will allow my students access to on-line learning throughout the day in all subject areas. Our school has limited access to even the most basic materials such as paper. Most of the technology we have is obsolete and does not provide my students with the tools they need to move beyond the basic curriculum to meet their academic needs. The more updated computers are shared by the entire school and thus my students have access to them for about 30 minutes every two weeks. These computers will help my students build the 21st century skills that they need to compete in today's world. I have an amazing group of gifted learners, to limit their learning to the core curriculum using paper, pencil, textbooks and outdated technology would be doing them a disservice. These devices will allow my students to better develop into researchers, critical thinkers, problem solvers,and creators. These computers will provide limitless possibilities.

Having chromebooks in our classroom will allow us to use them throughout the day, everyday and across the curriculum!

My students will have access to so many invaluable learning tools that exist today. They will not only deepen their comprehension of the core curriculum, but they will also develop the technological skills that are necessary to be successful in today's society.
