Welcome to Pre-K! Come on in! We ask that you be respectful to those around you as well as the materials you play with. Language isn't an issue here, we're confident you'll pick it up quick. We learn through play and exploration so you're required to bring your curiosity and imagination. Have fun!
Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious but there's darkness lurking about that's much too serious.
Pre-k is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day. But the trouble that's looming seems to be blooming. Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much much quicker.
They want to prepare us to be college ready, we want to go to college but at a pace that's steady. Our parents can't help us of the troubles that's lurking,
it's not their fault! They're too busy working! It's up to you to help us keep our childhood we're about to lose, you wonderful people, the people of Donors Choose!
My Project
As the students go off into their choice centers, dramatic play will always fill up. Our children make best of what we have, and they won't let missing pieces get in the way of their play. One day, the small area in the corner of our room dedicated to the exploration of their imagination will be a fire station ready to take on emergencies. Some days it will be a school, where a teacher will educate his or her students. Most times, it will be a house or a restaurant and food is required to be prepared at the kitchen. The kitchen isn't the worst, but it's far from the best. Our refrigerator had been taken from us to be used as a filing cabinet. Other pieces have fallen off. Our kitchen needs to be replaced, and we're calling for the wonderful donors to help us. The new kitchen set we're requesting will help us greatly in our dramatic play center.
Our kids aren't very picky.
Many of them come from immigrant families and have never seen the materials and resources our classroom has. They are grateful for what they have and make the best of what they don't. This project, although requesting only one item, will make a huge impact. They've seen their parents utilizing the kitchen at home, so the idea of how a kitchen works is in their head. Watching it play out in a new kitchen will be a wonderful thing for them to experience and us to see.
