My students need Vocabulary Cards, Hot Dots, and Reading Comprehension Cards for center activities that can help them grow in literacy. We also need tape.
My students need more of a fun and creative way to practice their literacy skills.
Our school is a Title l school in perhaps one of the poorest communities I have been in.
Most of our school is on free or reduced-price lunch. My students are very appreciative of all that our school can provide to them. I often find myself going above and beyond the call of teaching to help my students out. My students come to me performing under grade level and lacking much of the knowledge needed to complete grade level work. We work hard everyday to accomplish our goals and have been doing a great job so far this year.
My Project
We spend a good amount of time working on literacy in the classroom, literacy is something that stretches through all subject areas. I think that it is important to make sure that the students have plenty of practice opportunities to help them grow in literacy. The students will have more of a variety to practice their literacy skills not to mention a fun way with the Hot Dots, vocabulary practice cards, and reading comprehension cards. These resources will allow them to be independent and practice skills to grow in literacy. Vocabulary is a great need in our school with so many ELL students so that center will greatly improve their English word knowledge which will in turn improve reading and comprehension. The Adhesive tape will be used in our room to help organize our materials to have a more accessible classroom for the students and any guests that come to visit. We will be labeling folders, binders, bins, boxes, books, resources, centers etc... This tape will help our room!
This project will assist the students in literacy which will then turn around and help them in other academic areas.
These new centers they will be more engaged in their learning and won't get bored with the same centers. Vocabulary building activities are very important at our school since there are so many ELL students and improving vocabulary will improve literacy over all. The adhesive tape will help our whole class become more organized!
