My Students
"...For children, play is serious learning. Play is the work of childhood." -Fred Rogers. I want my students to become serious learners. I want to foster that learning through child-directed and process-oriented projects.
We are a 2nd grade class at a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in Texas.
All 38 students are involved in daily science and engineering experiences. In 2nd grade, we introduce the scholars to the engineering design process and help them become confident and creative thinkers. We want to give the scholars experiences with materials and systems that help them expand their ideas about the world around them.
My Project
We are in need of quality materials to add to our classroom Tinker Lab. We are asking for the Legos, K'Nex, and Straw Builders to use to express our creativity. One way the children will get to use them is by creating scenes for a storybook. They will then write stories to go along with their Lego scenes. They will also be using the materials for a variety of engineering design projects that involve building and testing materials. My scholars will use these materials to show their creativity through building, experimenting, and tinkering.
This project is important because these materials provide my scholars the tools they need to have ample opportunities to explore the world around them.
These scholars need to continue to build, experiment, and tinker to become creative and confident thinkers.
