Have you ever had to struggle with keeping up with the world we live in? This is the challenge that my students face when it comes to this ever changing world of technology. Technology is so essential in this world, however, it is also one of the most expensive items to maintain.
My students are energetic, fun, and smart 7th and 8th graders at a Title 1 school in one of the fastest growing cities in NC.
They need many things to make them successful and competitive as the other upper class public or private schools in the surrounding areas. They need materials that catch their eyes, make them want to learn more about social studies. My students are students that have to have visuals and simulation in their learning. They need to apply the concepts of history to real life situations. When they are able to apply these concepts it now challenges their reading and writing skills. My students also need the chance to be able to compete in the high pace technological world we live in today. However, in the school they are at we are always short of funds. That means that my students are not able to know what technology is out there or know how to use it; this is making them ineffective 21st century citizens/learners.
My Project
In the world we live in today it is hard to always keep up with the ever changing world of technology, however, it is the goal of teachers to make for sure students are keeping up with it. How is that possible when all I have is an old laptop and projector? Am I really keeping up with technology to help my students be better in this 21st century world? My school has many problems and one of those is they are not able to afford new technology for their teachers. This one Ipad can help bring my students up to date in so many ways; they will be able to bring history and social studies to life, while learning new ways to interact with technology. They will be able reenact historical events, watch their reenactment, even edit it; they would even be able to watch a lesson they missed because they were absent. This one new way of technology will bring my students up to being the 21st century learners of tomorrow.
This project is one of the final ways that I can really help my students become active, responsible, 21st century learners, however, this can now be done in unlimited creative ways.
Imagine getting to edit your own historical reenactment and actual seeing the history that you created in front of you. My students are fun and creative and this resource will bring this out in them in so many ways.
