My Students

I teach social studies and language arts to 56 of the best students in the world! My students are passionate about learning and love to explore new things. However, some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. Until now!

My students are fifth graders in a kindergarten through sixth grade school.

We will live in a close-knit small town. Many of our children have never left the state. We love to explore Earth virtually by touring the Eiffel Tower, The White House, The Grand Canyon, and so much more! We love to read about the places and make connections to our own lives. We recently read Serafina and the Black Cloak, and now we are craving more. We know the setting of this novel is located in the America's largest home which is only 90 minutes away from our small town! We dream of loading up a bus a making the drive across the beautiful Tennessee/ North Carolina mountains to see this Gilded Age masterpiece in person!

My Project

The pages of our favorite book will come alive as we tour the house and grounds of Vanderbilt's Estate. We have read the book, studied the Gilded Age, and learned about George Vanderbilt. We are eager to learn more as we embark on a field trip that will be a once in a lifetime trip for many of our students. We meet the requirements of a poverty school, and this trip would not be possible without the generous support of donors.

This field trip would be an amazing opportunity for my students because many of them would be leaving our state for the first time!

Many of them fell in love with reading after this novel study. This trip would be the cherry on top of their fifth grade year!
