This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember trying to understand Shakespeare when you were in middle and high school? Plays are supposed to be heard and seen!

My students are in 7th and 8th grade..

Our school is considered gifted and talented for math, science, and technology but reading and writing skills are just as valuable. Located in an urban setting with high needs, I rely on Donor's Choose to assist with the materials needed for my students. They are always enthusiastic and excited when boxes of books arrive for our classroom library!

My Project

In order to bring Shakespeare to life in my classroom I rely on graphic novel and audio versions of the plays to supplement my teaching. My students are already hooked on reading graphic novels independently, so this will make reading Shakespeare in class much more enticing and appealing to them. Also the audio version makes the plays easier to understand because the lines are read by multiple actors who understand how the lines are meant to be read. The added sword fights and music bring the play to life as well.

I like using the audio over playing a movie because they are reading the actual lines while listening to the play, not just watching the actors on a screen.

The graphic novels maintain the integrity of the text by keeping all of Shakespeare's original lines in tact. The illustrations do a great job aiding their comprehension and keeping their interest By donating to my project, you will make my students much more willing to read Shakespeare than when you were in school!
