My students are sixth graders in a rural community.

Like most students their age, they are interested in a variety of learning activities, but are most engaged by technology. My school is very much interested in implementing a 1:1 ratio of students to devices. But, that process will take time. For now, I'd like a small set of technology that can be used in my classroom daily.

My Project

I plan to make use of my school's BYOD (bring your own device) policy and allow students to use their own devices whenever possible. However, not all students have devices, and not all devices will be compatible with applications and websites I plan to use. The Chromebooks I am requesting will mostly be used for small group and individual instruction. This will ensure that I have compatible technology available on a daily basis for specifically planned small group lessons. Students will use the devices for activities such as completing research and completing individualized vocabulary and spelling activities. Small groups will use the Chromebooks to complete reading activities, such as games and quizzes. The students will also be able to complete individualized spelling activities and tests through the use of the Vocabulary Spelling City subscription. This will be a great complement to my online, individualized vocabulary program that has already been purchased.

The most important way that this completely funded project would improve my classroom is that students will have better access to more individualized content.

With this technology, I will be better able to create different content for students based on their needs regardless of whether they are on level, below level, or above level. Also, this project will help my classroom be more environmentally conscious. The amount of paper used in my classroom will be dramatically decreased.
