Take a peek inside our classroom. In many ways, it is like any elementary classroom. We learn to read. We play with friends. We learn to count. We desire to explore technology and learn all that we can. However, our physical challenges often make it difficult to fully access these resources.
Our school is quite a unique place.
We are a small suburban school, which truly provides the best education for ALL students. ALL students as expected to achieve to their highest potential. With this wonderful elementary school is an extra-special classroom that supports students with moderate to severe educational needs in Kindergarten and First Grade.
For some students within our classroom, this can be quite struggle as they have many challenges. Most of the students within the classroom are non-verbal and we are working on exploring different communication options to best meet their needs. Classroom activities and academic tasks are modified to provide the students ways to express what they know. Physical limitations are also seen within the classroom. Students require adapted seating arrangements and various fine motor supports. We work hard at balancing both the academic and personal skills of ALL the students.
My Project
With the many challenges my students face (limited motor skills, vision issues, hearing issues), access to technology and appropriate, meaningful activities is currently limited. Students are not about to utilize some of the school based technology due to the lack of protective cases.
For this project, we are looking to obtain 7 extremely protective iPad covers to use on the school based iPads which my students currently due not access because the do not have any cases. The protective cases in this project offer protection from drops. All cases also contain a screen cover which offers protections from unintentional spills as well as offers easy sanitation.
The cases would allow students to access a portion of the school set of iPads to support academic skills to daily living skills. The students will learn valuable skills that will support their academic growth as well as begin the foundation for skills to help them become productive members of the community.
Donations for this project will help increase student access to a school set of iPads.
This will provide the students opportunities to practice & learn new skills in a format that is accessible (& exciting) for all students. The cases will allow each of the students to access school iPads has well as a chance to explore the digital world on their own.
Teacher who understands students' needs + students who give 110% + project completion = creating a better future for a class of amazing students
