Teacher professional development: I need a Windows 8 laptop and mouse for professional development courses. In turn, I will incorporate project based learning lessons with my students. <profdevpilot>
I love the Latin Proverb, "By teaching you will learn. By learning you will teach."
As an educator, I've always believed that continued education is a must because the more we learn, the more students benefit. Though it isn't easy to be a student again, I do know it is time for me to do so!
I teach Kindergarten at a Pre K-5 school with over 500 students.
The parental support is very important to our families in the community. In addition to that, our school has wonderful and caring leaders and teachers. Let me also add, that we have the most wonderful students! I have been a Kindergarten teacher many years now and despite obstacles in the teaching field, I still love teaching today. At this time, my goal is to continue learning more about productive technology integration lessons and the Windows 8 system. With that said, the next step for me would be learning about Windows 8 and project based learning to bring different technology based lessons to my students. However, before I cross that bridge, I need to learn more this resource and projects that would benefit me as a student, as well as my Kindergarten children later on.
My Project
Upon learning about this grant, I spoke to my technology leaders and asked if they would help me with this quest. They agreed & recommended professional development articles & tutorials that would guide me. My PD course would include meeting with them individually or with small groups. The plan includes meeting for 3 sessions to help me understand how Windows 8 works, in conjunction with learning about project based lessons. The Professional Development plan is set up @ http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/dozier/eye/profdevsessions/ProfDevelopmentW8.pdf. With the use of the requested Windows 8 laptop, my tech mentors will guide me on a path to help not only me, but my students later on. Our plan has me with working with 2 steps. First, it includes learning the hardware & navigation of Windows 8. After learning the physical components of this tool, the 2nd goal would offer productive project-based learning activities for my students using this Windows 8 machine after I've completed my course.
As the Latin Proverb says, "By teaching you will learn.
By learning you will teach." Though it isn't easy to be a student again, the time has come for me to do this. With the proposed grant, you can help me take a new step & strive harder to accomplish my new goals. With the help of this Windows 8 laptop & the project based lessons, I know I can move forward with new knowledge to help me grow as a student and teacher. Would you consider helping me on this learning and teaching journey of mine?
