Imagination is a powerful thing. When is the last time something in a classroom caused you to really WONDER? With so much classroom material being SERIOUS, is it any surprise kids are bored in school? I want to create a whimsical and inspirational learning space where students creativity runs WILD!
My K-4 students (all 530 of them!) are amazing thinkers, writers, dreamers, artists, musicians, mathematicians, scientists, historians, photographers, videographers, gamers, athletes and programmers.
My classroom is all new this year and the students are at the center of the learning experience. They will be challenged in new ways, collaborating with each other and with students outside our school, in many cases, for the first time in their lives! They live in a terrific small town (about 3.5 square miles, population 8,624) in New Jersey with a rich heritage and strong work ethic. Our kids are great but our families are greater, because that is where the strength of our community really shows.
My Project
My students need their imaginations ignited! I want to create a "newsroom clock wall" featuring local times for real and imaginary locations for them to wonder about! This request is simple We're looking for seven wall clocks to create a "Newsroom Clocks" wall, something like this: http://tinyurl.com/newsroomclocks - but the "cities" for each will be where the fun begins. We'll set some of them to "real" locales they will recognize - New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, etc. - and some "imaginary" ones too, like Tatooine, Narnia, Hogwarts Castle, Bikini Bottom, Sesame Street. I can just see their faces now: "is that really what time it is in Narnia?" I want them to wonder, and for their minds to wander, because that is where creativity runs wild!
We are building a brand-new learning experience for our K-4 students this year.
We are turning our "computer lab" class into a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) experience.Thinking outside the box or walls will encourage them to think globally. We have a huge, amazing classroom (http://tinyurl.com/k4stemlabpics) where the kids will be able to WRITE ON THE WALLS (thanks to IdeaPaint), use laptop computers (Google Chromebooks) and sprawl around the room in comfortable seats (another project I need funded!) THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING OUR REQUEST! BLESS YOU!
