Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember trying to create the perfect projects for school? Coloring, using markers, maybe stencils, but still not getting it right? Computers allow our students to create profession projects, if we have the printers available to produce color.
Our student body is very diverse.
We have military kids, International Baccalaureate students, AVID students, special education students, foreign exchange students, students from many walks of life. However, the majority of the students have one thing that pulls them all together; they come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our school works hard to promote learning across the board. Our students have risen to meet these demands.
My Project
One of the things our students ask of us is to not just stand there and lecture. To make the lessons as entertaining as well as educational. One of the problems with this is the cost of providing ink and paper, especially colored ink. Our school only has two colored printers on the entire campus. One of them is in the library and the students are charged .25 for each copy they make with color on it.
When trying to incorporate projects into the curriculum, it is hard to justify putting students into a position in which they have to pay for several sheets of paper in order to create an acceptable professional looking project.
We are working to raise the bar of expectations for our students.
When we assign projects we want them to take pride in them. They must be expected to produce a project that they would be proud to show and would be acceptable in the professional world. Not having the tools to make this possible isn't right. In order to raise the expectations, we must provide the opportunity to meet those expectations.
