The Projector Project

My students need a projector in order to help build oracy and better understand complex concepts in both languages.

My Students

In a dual language classroom, students are constantly working to build their skills in both English and Spanish. They are growing up as simultaneous bilinguals, and every activity that we do in class has language demands associated with it. Having a projector would help them with these demands.

About half of my students come from English-speaking homes, and the other half from Spanish-speaking ones.

All of them speak both Spanish and English in the classroom, and their skills improve each day. My students are kind, thoughtful, and hardworking, and they never cease to amaze me.

My Project

We would use the projector to access things such as PowerPoint presentations, visual cues, instructions, and videos. These could be things that I had prepared in advance as well as projects that my students create. For example, my students would be able to work on their own presentations on the school's Chromebooks and present them to the whole class, thus affording them the opportunity to speak, write, and read in the target language. Regardless of who created the materials being shown, the projector will allow my students to interact with both languages in new ways and will help them to stay engaged.

Having a projector in our classroom would make a huge difference for my students.

No matter what we are learning about, half of my students are always learning in their second language. The projector would enable them to have visual representations to refer to, which would enrich the lesson and help them make stronger, more meaningful connections to the language. This, in turn, will allow my students to grow as bilinguals, which will open countless doors for them in the future.
