The Printer's On the Blink with NO Ink

My Students

"I wrote a fabulous 10 page paper this week. What do you mean, the printer ran out of ink and I can't print it?" My students create amazing work, but we don't have the ink we need for them to print, share, and submit it to their teachers and peers.

My students are 7th and 8th grade students in a large, urban school district.

My school focuses on college and career readiness, so my students are already preparing for life in high school and beyond. They are hard workers who regularly meet and exceed standards set for them by the school and by the district. However, this does not always mean that our school has the resources our students need for success. Many times, we rely on parents and community support for the supplies we need. When students need to print their essays, research, and projects, we ask them to print their work at home, and often tell those that don't have printers at home to go to a public library. But what happens when we need to print work that is created in school or want students to print out reliable research from the Internet as they find it in our classes? My students are exceptional learners and deserve all the resources our school can provide to them.

My Project

My students create a lot of written documents and use the computers in my room for a variety of purposes: essays, presentations, note-taking, and research, to name a few. They are an incredibly intelligent and productive group of students. However, the printers in my room can't keep up with the amount of work my students create. We need black and color ink in order print all of the work we do. These printers are shared by all the middle school classes, including language arts, math, science, and social studies, so the ink for the printers will benefit all students in 7th and 8th grades.

Getting ink for the printers in my room will benefit the entire middle school population at my school.

It will assist the students in creating and publishing their work for their language arts, math, science, and social studies classes. We will no longer have to tell students who don't have printers at home to go to their public libraries, which may be miles away or virtually nonexistent in their communities, in order to print what they need for their classes.
