This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
By the end of the year, I want my scholars to be lovers of reading and understand its importance to their educational development. Reading is fundamental!
I teach 6th grade students who are funny, creative and a joy to be around!
The environment that most of them come from does not expose them to much outside of their own communities. They want to be great, but simply lack motivation. My students range in learning styles and abilities, but are all wonderful in their individual respects. They have a lot of personality and do not hesitate to use it!
My Project
My scholars will be reading the novel, Nightjohn. Instead of giving my scholars excerpts of the book, I want for each student to have their own classroom copy. This text will help to support the idea that reading is important and the lengths that some went through in order to be able to read.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving students something of value - a book- and it will increase their confidence in reading fluency and exposure to different genres of literature.
In addition knowing that someone is investing in their success will help boost their self esteem and self worth.
