Inquiring minds fill the classroom as we discuss science, math, life skills, job skills, writing, reading or social studies throughout the week. Imagine bringing this middle school atmosphere of learning to the next level. Technology can help us reach the next level.
My classroom supports students who receive Special Education services for a variety of needs.
The students are proud of their work and love to share it. I teach 7th and 8th graders at a public middle school. My classes cover the core subject areas as well as some specialized areas. Students are taught in small groups with modifications to the common core and general education curriculum.
In the past month, our classroom moved to a new room in the building. We do not have access to a document camera, projector or a projector screen. These technology tools would help bring learning to the next level by engaging students through visual, kinesthetic, auditory and multi-sensory activities.
My Project
With a classroom projector and screen, students will be able to access learning videos by projecting from a computer. Students would be able to share their copies of electronic work with the class. For instance, a student could display a document saved on the computer for students to follow along during a student presentation. Images could be pulled up instantly to share with the entire class to help differentiate learning during lessons. Students could view lesson agendas in easily displayed fonts, sizes and colors. For science, the microscope kit would allow the 7th graders access to viewing slides as we study cells. The microscope with the large screen would be such a beneficial tool for multiple viewing of a slide at one time. This would also help for students who have difficulty looking through a microscope due to sensory or visual difficulties. What a great tool! Technology would engage students and offer multimedia means to learning skills and concepts taught.
Students will benefit in numerous ways.
We will have a projector and screen right in the classroom to use on a daily basis. Science would be able to use various microscopes to help with viewing and displaying images from prepared slides. Technology is such a great learning and teaching tool. I love technology and the students do, too! Thanks for reading about our project.
