An important part of school is allowing students to publish and share their best work. A few of the teachers at my school have partnered with Adobe Youth Voices next year to do that, but, unfortunately, we lack some of the hardware to do it properly. We need your help.
We are a public junior high school in a mining community that is currently seeing some growth as new starter homes are bringing in many young families to the area.
Over 50% of the students enrolled at the school qualify for free or reduced lunch. A number of our students come to the school in temporary living situations. We do our best to provide some stability for these students.
Some of our programs for students include: Gifted and talented classes, Latinos in Action, ESL (English as a Second Language), Peer Tutoring, Mentors, Media Production class, Shakespeare month, and much more. We have a strong school-wide vocabulary program.
Next year we will focus on making the year a "Year of Gratitude." Students will make public service announcements, participate in service projects, and find ways to express their gratitude. We will be creating a school literary magazine focused on the gratitude theme.
My Project
A few teachers at our school will be participating in a great program sponsored by Adobe called Adobe Youth Voices. In the program, we have been given a generous amount of Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements software. We have the technology to implement the video portion of the program, but we need some hardware to complete the photography portion. This is why we are asking you for help to purchase a color laser printer.
We plan on creating a school literary magazine that will include the best short essays, poems, and short stories written by our students. The art classes will use Adobe Photoshop to edit photographs and art work created to include in the magazine.
We want to publish the magazine in house, so we need a printer to be able to do it. We also want to use the printer to create public service posters for our Year of Gratitude and posters about our school-wide vocabulary.
Our technology money will be spent upgrading the operating system of most of the computers in our school next year.
This won't leave any money for the extras that we need to successfully publish student projects.
Allowing students to take home a color copy of their work is a gift that many will treasure for a lifetime. We need your help to be able to make this happen, and we appreciate your contributions.
