My students need an ipad to help with hands-on learning of new technology. Many students have never used a handheld device, and this would be a great help.
Help us bring a great old school into the twenty-first century! Technology is important, and I feel my students are missing out on learning opportunities, due to our limited technology budget. The purchase of a new ipad 2 would help bring us on par with wealthier school districts.
You've heard the story before: poor rural district, a lot of businesses closing in the past few years, a proud but struggling school system.
I'm the librarian and computer teacher and would like to expose the children to as wide a variety of technology as possible. It hurts me that most of these kids have very limited access to expensive devices such as ipads and electronic readers. While our school has twenty ipads, we have over three hundred students, resulting in very limited time with these devices. I am using ever resource I have to increase the number of devices available, allowing more students to be able to use such device.
My Project
I would like to purchase one iPad 2 for use in the general classrooms as well as the computer lab. Many of my students do not have phones or running water in their homes, let alone computers or other electronic devices. They love their computer time with me, but as I work at two buildings, I only see each student for twenty-five minutes a week. We have a few iPads from a grant, but because of our large population, students are lucky if they get a chance to use one once a month. They love the many educational activities, books, and websites these devices allow. The teachers find them to be an excellent reward for students, as well as a great learning station during centers time. Even the purchase of one more device could allow several more students to have computer time each week.
Just because my students were born in a small, economically-depressed town, does not mean they do not deserve the same opportunities as anyone.
I'd love to be able to say my students have had the same access to technology as kids at a wealthier district.
