This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some students do not realize the extent in which Art touches our lives. My hope is to expose my students to artists around the country and world to help students better understand how art influences society. By using technology, students are able to view art that would typically be out of reach.
Our School is a responsive classroom school that serves students from varying economic backgrounds and family situations.
I am an Art teacher that teaches 525 students for one session of Art each week. Our students are excited to choose how they best learn and my hope is, with the help of DonorsChoose, to allow them the option of discovering art through multiple methods.
My Project
I hope this year to start a technology station within the art room. With the use of iPads, I will be able to expose students to museums and artists from around the world. I would also like to incorporate apps that allow students to create art digitally. Students will learn how to use technology properly to find information and to create personal works of art. Having this station will allow students the opportunity to develop multiple means of mastery in topics like color theory, demonstrating line variations, designing compositions, and identifying famous works of art.
This project will drastically change the way our classroom runs.
Currently our classes are about 23 students, and there is one lesson for each class session. With the addition of iPads, students will be provided the opportunity to choose a station and show mastery of the topic in varying ways. Students will also have the opportunity to develop skills needed to successfully use technology. Having different stations will also allow more one on one time with the teacher.
