My Students

Today's children are technology savvy. They begin using a computer, iPad and/or smartphone before they are even out of diapers. Technology captures their attention and keeps them focused on a lesson. I want my students to be strong,confident learners who can think and solve problems independently.

I teach first grade in a public school district.

I am incredibly lucky to teach in a diverse district. My students bring very different experiences to the classroom. This provides a rich environment for learning. It's so rewarding to watch my students help each other learn and grow.

My Project

Technology has become such an important tool in educating our children. My students researched the animals of the desert biome on our school iPads and desktop computers. They were engaged and excited while doing the research. They were able to see many incredible and detailed photographs and videos about the animals. A few of my students actually asked if they could do 2 animal research reports! I said, "yes!" of course. My students will use the Chromebooks to practice math and phonics skills. They will read e-books and answer comprehension questions. They will do research for non-fiction reports. They will make graphic organizers and type reports and papers. My students will also have the opportunity to become familiar with the Chromebook. They will be able to practice their typing skills. This is important because in 2nd grade they will take the PARCC standardized test on Chromebooks. It's important that they are able to navigate it and know the keyboard.

The Chromebooks would be a valuable asset to my classroom.

Students will be able to use them on a daily basis. The Chromebooks would assist them in all areas of learning. As it is now, we have to wait for our turn to use the computer lab. We only get iPads once a week. We do have 3 desktops in our classroom but they are old/slow which can be incredibly frustrating for both my students and me. My students can use the Chromebooks to answer questions as they think of them. Wow!!!
