Teaching With The Help Of Technology (My iPad Assistant)

My students need an iPad in the classroom because a portable, interactive device would facilitate independent learning (especially for ESOL and emergent readers).

My Students

You're never too young or too old for a good story. I am fostering a literature-rich environment in my classroom where learning springs out of excitement and curiosity rather than a chore. Whether reading or writing or turning the gears with mathematical fun, lifelong learning starts here!

My students are a vivacious bunch of strong personalities!

We have students of cultures from all around the world so for us the minorities are our majority! Two-thirds of my students come from families where English is the second language. In fact, three of my little friends are just now learning English! Each child is eager to learn and grow. Every child has his or her unique motivations, but we find common ground in the funniest of places! My active bunch will entertain you, charm you, challenge you, and capture your heart. Never underestimate them . . . they can and will rise to the occasion!

My Project

My students will be using the iPad for various purposes. Students of all abilities will use apps that can read stories aloud or on which students can read the stories to themselves. I also plan on checking out ebooks from the library on the device. We will use other apps to enrich and remediate for both Language Arts and Math. The interactive capabilities of the device will help with students who need more guidance when the teacher is unavailable. This learning platform engages this tech-savvy generation in ways that traditional activities cannot. It will also provide my students with the opportunity to become more technologically fluent on the keyboard and general technology interface. This is especially important for my students who do not have access to technology resources at home.

This project will help me as a teacher to manage, engage, and teach students of varying ability levels.

As I assign different lessons, games, and activities on the iPad, students will be able to work independently while I teach and assist others. It will also create another level of interactive learning and provide my students with additional opportunities to engage in technology that is becoming more and more a part of our cultural norm.
