My Students

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." This quote defines my approach to education. Children are curious and inquisitive by nature. My job is not merely to teach but to encourage independent exploration and discovery.

My students are eager, engaged, and eccentric.

They strive to learn everyday despite ever growing obstacles. We are a high need poverty stricken Title I school but my students do not allow this status to define them. They excel in spite of their circumstances and thrive to be highly educated difference makers. These kids work incredibly hard and deserve to be rewarded for their positive attitudes, continuos growth, and ability to take on any challenge. They excel in all areas but particularly love math and science.

My Project

Most of my students have limited, if any, access to technology at home and therefore must have the opportunity to use it at school. The innovative nature of mobile technology leaves the door open for endless student centered applications. The students will have the ability to publish completed writing projects to share with students from around the world. They will utilize learning apps, online educational videos, e-textbooks and the Internet to enhance the classroom experience. The will gain proficiency in all technology standards setting them up for success in future grades and eventually a career of their choice. Experts have said that using tablets and apps to personalize the learning process has increased the effectiveness of teachers and the ability for students to retain learning. I would love to offer this opportunity to my students by providing them with the equipment necessary.

Utilizing modern technology is something my students are unable to do outside the classroom due to incredibly limited resources among their families.

The recently adopted common core standards require students to proficiently manipulate current technology and these tablets would greatly assist them in meeting these goals. By using tablets in class my students will have access to so many new and innovative learning opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them.
