My students need 31 copies of the book "Hide and Seek" and a classroom kit to teach my students how to geocache. This two items will begin a great adventure!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Have you ever wanted to go on an adventure? My students have heard numerous stories about my geocaching adventures. Now I would like to share those geocaching adventures while teaching them about global positioning and taking care of the environment at the same time.
I teach fifty to sixty students each school year.
My students attend an arts integrated school in an urban school district. They are very eager to experience things and apply what they have learned. Here in Mississippi we have a diverse population and diverse ecosystems. Through this project they want me to do they can then experience more adventure and learn more about their state.
To begin our project my students will read "Hide and Seek" by Katy Grant. This book is about a child about their age who uses a GPS receiver and the sport of geocaching in an adventure that will hopefully save a missing person's life. After completing the book each child will take an AR test. This reading adventure will lead to me teaching them how to geocache. I have been caching for about seven years, Eductr is my handle, hence the title, and they have heard about my adventures and they want to experience their own. I will place various caches at our school's campus, unpublished, and have them search with the GPS then sign the log book. As "Disney" encourages a greener environment I am going to teach them and have them practice CITO, which means Cache In Trash Out. We will be caching and cleaning up the litter people leave behind when they use our campus' playground after school hours. By practicing CITO we will help make this a cleaner and safer place for our children.
This project is important to my children because they want to experience geocaching and how you can learn and make a difference by geocaching.
Your help will give them an opportunity to have an experience otherwise they might not have. Also, through the practice of CITO they can see how simple it is to not litter or clean up litter.
