"I hope for your help to explore and protect the wild ocean in ways that will restore the health and, in so doing, secure hope for humankind. Health to the ocean means health for us." Sylvia Earle, Oceanographer.
This cold water aquarium will not only allow students to study the native marine tidepool creatures off the Oregon coast (and be inspired by them), but tie into a variety of environmental lessons about how the ocean and humans are inextricably connected.
My Project
We will use this native coldwater ecosystem to learn about ways humans have contributed to the altering of ocean ecosystems (introduced species, biomagnification, pollution, ocean acidification and overfishing). We also will use this classroom tidepool to learn about the importance of Marine Protected Areas off the Oregon coast.
Put simply, our oceans are in crisis, and if nothing is done about it every living person, plant and animal in this world will be negatively affected.
To inspire my students to love and protect nature, please help us get this classroom tide pool tank.
