My Students

Do you remember sitting through your economics class? I want my students to remember what they did in 3rd grade during their economics unit. The Lemonade War is a book that will introduce their understanding of starting and running a business.

I have 23 eight and nine year olds in my 3rd grade class.

They love school. They are a very energetic and inquisitive group of children. They love to learn and LOVE to read. They go to a rural school in North Carolina. They grow up in a very small town which has a great sense of community. My students are very involved in sports, girl scouts, and boy scouts.

My Project

Having the resource of the book The Lemonade War will enable my students to understand the true meaning of economics. During our economics unit, we will read The Lemonade War. It will show them how one summer two siblings that were their age attempt to calculate sales and profit expenses. In addition to the math problems and economic definitions at the beginning of each chapter, the book contains some wonderful charts, diagrams, and newspaper clippings. They will learn about things that successful, things that didn't work, and conflict within the business. They will be able to apply what they learned while reading this book to creating their own business plan and producing the product.

Donations will make the difference for my class because they will be able to apply what they learned in my class and relate it to real life.

Global awareness and the economy are aspects that students need to be aware of because it effects their future. If each student has a book, it will provide hands-on exposure to understanding different aspects of the math and economics.
