My Students
Creating content is something that interests many of my students. Having a PlayStation Vita will give more students that opportunity to be involved in designing and creating gaming content through Little Big Planet.
My students have wonderful imaginations, if they are not creating their own environments to play in then they are taking ideas that they know well and adapting them with their own personal twists.
They build worlds with Lego, draw scenes from dreams, write tales of wonder. In short, they are amazing creators.
My students (like most in this day and age) are also video game fans. They love to play games all the time. Additionally, they have wonderful ideas of what they would like to create. Last year, I was able to start a Little Big Planet design club that was a major success. So much so that I have already had more students than I could possibly take express interest in being involved.
My Project
As part of our club students have the opportunity to design and create levels in Little Big Planet. They learn the process coming up with an original idea. Then creating that idea using a set of resources. Once they reach a certain point students trouble shoot their creations to ensure that it is working appropriately and changing things that are not working correctly. Finally, sharing their creation with friends and family and publishing their ideas for anyone to place.
This small handheld piece of hardware and its required memory card would allow me to grow the group a bit. This hardware also helps us because we do not need to find another television to use. Having the Vita would allow another student to work on creations as part of our game design club.
I work with a community of children who would benefit greatly from finding and beginning to work towards an interest.
At the end of last year one of the parents of a student in the design club told me that his son had never taken to or worked so hard on anything in his life, and that it meant the world to them (his parents) that I had put this together. Please help me to make this project grow.
