My Students

Every morning my students start by greeting one another & checking their accounts for their morning task. After, we say our classroom rules & school creed. Our school creed states, "I will respect myself and others." Having 23 iPads, headphones are needed to reach this promise of respect. :-)

My school is a thriving institution of learning where genuine & dedicated teachers are in abundance.

We are currently experiencing a change from a suburban school to a more urban community. This change is a delight to experience because it ushers in a higher degree of diversity and learning. In a few words my students can be compared to sponges. They eagerly want to soak up any and every bit of knowledge around them. I have the pleasure of looping up to 2nd grade and getting to teach them for another year. Additionally, my students are the most tech savvy 7 year olds I have ever met. They gladly treat the iPads we have as a creative outlet to express their knowledge of concepts. I anticipate their creativity will only grow as their knowledge of how to use iPads increases. There aren't many times we have problems in our classroom. When we do they often center around the interference of sound from another person's iPad. They are excellent students and I could not be more proud!

My Project

My students will be able to use their headphones to explore different avenues of learning such as creating and editing an iMovie or creating a book with their own voice narrating the story. We have so many multimedia projects that require students to hear & edit what they have recorded. One major of projects students are involved with several times per year is creating a presentation from their research that involves students reading out loud to improve fluency. Students record themselves reading a book, sending that recording to me, I create & print scan able code, and then allow students to listen to each other reading. This increases the students ability to read smoothly, creates a culture, and multiplies the books available to students for our listening corner. Not to mention the increase in self-esteem for any and all readers. Their peers feel a sense of fame when another student tells them that their book was listen to!

In our school, we promote the respect and well being of others, having a class set of iPads would further be a blessing with the addition of suitable and durable headphones.

Allowing students to maintain a work environment with minimal sound distractions, will promote a focus and drive to learn for each student in my classroom.
