Every teacher wants what is best not only for their achievement in education but also in social, emotional, and physical development. If a student can feel safe, happy, and excited to be in the classroom, that is when the best learning can take place.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
-Dr. Seuss
This is my favorite quote because it is my goal to try to ensure that my students have every opportunity to learn and grow in the short time that I have to impact them. I pride myself on having a classroom environment where my students can be proud and excited to be in. My students are hard workers and always rise to any challenge (as children will do when they feel loved and respected). As the expectations in curriculum, standards, and testing have increased, my students have had to spend more time in their chairs than I would like. Anytime I can, I try to incorporate movement during our learning time My students love to run, play, play kickball and soccer, as well as read and draw.
My Project
The eight and nine year-olds in my classroom spend way too many hours of their day sitting, whether it is during school lessons, or home watching T.V. or playing video games. Recently, I have felt the pressure to rise to the challenges of making sure all of my students reach the expectations of the Common Core. I watch my students sit in their chairs for long periods of the day, despite my efforts to get them up and moving. I would like to provide my classroom with Hokki Stools and stability ball chairs. Hokki Stools are round bottom stools that wobble. They are made for those students who have a constant need to rock and move. This is a safe and quiet way for students to get the movement they need without rocking back in their chairs (and falling over). Having the stability balls as chairs will allow me to incorporate even more movement into the part of their day that normally wouldn't possible. Research suggests that some children are unable to focus at school because of weak co
This project could significantly impact the students I'll have this year.
They're coming into my classroom already behind in reading and math development. If I can secure their attention from the beginning of the year and keep their energy focused, I know they'll make unbelievable gains throughout the year.
