My Students
My students need a multi-modal educational experience. Our school consists of over 90% low income families and we do not have the resources needed to teach different styles of learning for our students.
My students are in a special education classroom.
They are kind and eager to learn. They do not always come from the best circumstances and need as much support at school as possible. They need to learn by using their senses and it is important to teach them the different ways to learn. Some of my students have struggles with fine motor skills and some are impacted by visual and/or learning disabilities.
My Project
Because my students need a variety of learning resources, this tool will assist in them being able to feel and touch letters. A lot of our art projects are created with pre-made materials to help students put their own finishing touches on without feeling too overwhelmed by small details. This machine cuts very large letters which will help our students who have fine motor skill issues to trace, cut and use in a work system to spell out their names or identify letters. Some of our students are visually impaired and the large letters and symbols this machine creates will assist us in working to meet the visual needs of these students in either academic spelling tasks or in art projects. Finally, this machine will also aid in helping all of our students create beautiful art projects and show the school that beauty comes from all types of learners.
This project is important to me so that a variety of students can be touched through the use of one resource.
This machine will not only be used by my classroom but will be a resource for all students within our school.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
