My students need 8 new iPads, 8 iPad cases, and a new Mac laptop to support the new technology in our classroom and school to enhance their learning in the areas of STEM.
It's the 21st century and technology is everywhere. Imagine a school of about 275 students where there are only 5 iPads to share among everyone. We are a Pre-k to 5 school that has a laptop in every class that is primarily for teacher use. Therefore, learning and projects remain fairly low-tech.
I teach a new bunch of smart, curios, talented, and creative second graders every year who love learning.
We are a rural community and serve a variety of families. As a Title I school, many of our students receive free and reduced lunch. I believe that every child should be able to learn and grow with the best opportunities possible. Their economic status and being in a rural community should not limit their education.
I believe in the students at my school and want to do all I can to help them get the needed materials to manipulate and experience the most up to date technologies of the 21st century.
My Project
The new Mac Air laptop, 8 iPads, and 8 protective cases will be put to use right away! More students will be able to access ebooks, web-based math sites, and online reading assessments that are already in place. These 8 new iPads will provide more opportunities for collaboration and group work among our students strengthening the use of technology in science and social studies projects.
In addition, many of our staff are not comfortable with the technology themselves, let alone knowing how to utilize and implement it in their classrooms. Having these 8 iPads will also allow for teacher training sessions to educate the staff in ways to integrate more technology in the classrooms to make the school-wide impact even greater.
Currently, we do not have any computer in our school that is capable of housing the apps and media involved when using multiple iPads. The new Mac Air will provide the home base for the iPads and provide additional resource for projects and presentations.
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) increases with everything around us in our world today.
Our country is challenged by many other countries of the world as leaders of these areas. We want to create graduates who are on the cutting edge in STEM. By providing the tools, education, and opportunity to students beginning in grades as young as Pre-K this goal is definitely achievable for country's future graduates.
