Children are curious creatures! But did you know that they stop asking questions when they go through school? I want my students to be curious and ask questions and go find the answers and solve real-world problems that are linked to their curiosity!
My students are from diverse backgrounds.
They love to collaborate and challenge one another's thinking, even the thinking of the adults in their lives! Students in our school receive free and reduced lunch and have a number of challenges poring into the classrooms, but the adults in our school make it about the successes of these children! They have a great potential to not just merely survive in the real world, but succeed and impact life outside of our building walls.
My Project
After receiving Legos through previous Donors Choose projects and attending a two-week STEM training, my own curiosity and passion for robotics has grown! I want students to take ownership of their learning process and develop the skills to solve any problem that they come across while collaborating with others. Lego Mindstorms will allow students the opportunity to learn science, technology, engineering, and math concepts while being immensely engaged!
In my classroom, I allow an hour a week for students to come up with questions they have that pertain to their personal lives or to the world during a session called, "Genius Hour." During this time, students are encouraged to research anything that they are curious about. With the introduction of robotics, I envision my students coming up with solutions where they can program a machine to perform certain tasks. They will be the creative innovators that our world needs!
We need students to think outside the box.
We need to prepare students for jobs that haven't even been created yet. I want to be that teacher who pushes and challenges my students to surpass the potential that I see in them. I want to give them the opportunities to surprise themselves by seeing all that they can do already.
Donations to this project will help me to do just that. Won't you consider donating to the potential problem-solvers and innovators of our future?
