This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help my young learners develop science and math skills by providing technology that they can use to understand the basic concepts behind numbers, quantities, addition, subtraction, life and environmental science, and more.
I teach a transitional kindergarten (TK) class for our school.
This is a new grade level in California, developed for "young" five year olds to help bridge the gap between preschool and academic kindergarten. I teach at a wonderful, multicultural, public school located in the San Fernando Valley. We are a high poverty school, and many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
My class includes students that are both English and non-English speakers, as well as students with disabilities. All of my students love to work with an iPad; it motivates them to learn and they respond well to completing tasks when iPads are involved.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad that will provide fun apps the children can use to learn science and math concepts. "Montessori Numbers" and "Ecosystems HD" are two such apps. These apps teach math and science in fun ways and were developed for young children.
An iPad can be used in so many wonderful ways to help students learn. I can hook it up to our class Smart board so that the students can see videos and websites together as a whole group. Students can also work on the iPad individually, using the many apps that are available to help teach math and science concepts.
It is my goal to eventually have a set of six in the classroom to establish a technology center for a group of students to work independently on math or science apps while I am working with other students. If funded, this iPad would be an addition to this center.
By funding this proposal, you will be giving my students an iPad that they can use to learn science and math concepts.
The iPad can be used over and over with students in the future. With your generosity, you can help bring this wonderful technology to my classroom. Thank you!
