My students need supplies such as gears, pulleys and levers to create simple machines so that they may learn the basics of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Do you like to build and create? Take simple objects and make a beautiful project? Well, I teach students with Autism and Multiple Disabilities and they like to do that, too. Over 80 students come to my classroom because they want to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
I teach students with Autism and Multiple Disabilities from 2nd to 8th grade.
In order to truly teach my students STEM, I need supplies similar to those who participate in national and international competitions. Many of my students are hands-on learners but every child has different abilities and I am hoping that some of my students may one day find a career in one of the STEM areas. It is a constant uphill battle to reinforce, and provide academic challenges for my students each day.
Having a child with autism can be very difficult. Sometimes a child cannot concentrate, sometimes they don't understand the instructions we are giving them. With STEM as our focus, my students have a chance to be successful in school, as well as a chance at finding a good paying job and being an essential part of our community in the future. Unfortunately, our school does not have the budget to buy all the supplies necessary for this program, this is why we need your help.
My Project
This is our first year working on STEM. All of my students are very interested in learning how things work. I have already purchased a solar powered car kit from my own funds which they found great interest in. Due to this, I feel they will have a strong interest in building and engineering. In order to teach the students more about this I would need gear sets, a pulley system, and lever kits for students to build simple machines.
The students work must also be engaging; they must be able to find that special SPARK that makes them want to learn. In the STEM curriculum, I feel they can find something unique to themselves, that they will have ownership over and learn important educational and life lessons in the process. These materials are essential for my students with disabilities to learn STEM like their non-disabled peers. Even more importantly, our students must meet all the Common Core Learning Standards by their grade level and they need our help!
If you don'ÂÂt have the right tools to learn, then you cannot succeed.
Let'ÂÂs help these children get the best chance possible to learn this wonderful STEM curriculum and succeed. For children, building critical thinking is one of the most essential abilities they learn throughout their entire lives and you can be a part of that learning!
Your help will ensure that my students will have the chances they need to succeed. We need your help because we rely on donors with a kind heart,Let's like yourselves.
